New York, NY, February 20, 2024 鈥 The 探花精选 (探花精选) is disappointed at the US veto of another resolution today calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution also called for all parties to uphold international humanitarian law, for civilians and civilian infrastructure to be protected, hostages to be released and humanitarian aid to be facilitated urgently into Gaza. Whilst the US is negotiating a separate resolution text that calls for a temporary ceasefire 鈥渁s soon as is practicable鈥, the 探花精选 reiterates the need for an immediate and sustained ceasefire that protects the civilian population, allows unhindered access for humanitarian organizations, and facilitates the release of all hostages. The looming threat of an Israeli ground attack in Rafah and the dwindling of aid entering through the border with Egypt, mean that the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate day by day. People have a right to humanitarian assistance that protects life, health and dignity. Only an immediate and lasting ceasefire will protect lives and ensure organizations like the 探花精选 and our partners are able to scale up the level of aid that the people of Gaza so urgently need to survive. The UNSC must urgently reconvene and pass a resolution demanding an immediate stop to the fighting.
