The ofrenda is a place of honor constructed by the families or mourners in remembrance of dead ancestors or of a specific event. It is decorated with various items that represent the deceased, as well as the four elements including Earth (represented by an agricultural element like pan de muerto), Wind (represented by fluttering objects like papel picado 鈥 cut paper), Water (represented by bowls of water), and Fire (represented by candles). The ofrendas honor the dead to assure the continuity of life.
