The 探花精选 in Salt Lake City is committed to supporting newly arrived refugees on their journey from harm to home. As part of that commitment, we provide refugees with the basics they will need to start rebuilding their lives here in the U.S. These efforts are made possible by generous members of our local community! Join us by gathering much-needed in-kind donations to assist newly arrived refugee families and individuals as they work to regain control of their future and positively integrate into our community.

In-Kind Donations

Additionally, we can accept a short list of essential items dropped off to the 探花精选 office by appointment. We prefer to accept NEW items that are in original, unopened packaging, but may be able to accept certain used items in like-new condition.

  1. We will follow up to confirm if we are able to receive the items. You'll likely hear from Channing Gibbs, our development operations specialist, or another member of the team!
  2. Once confirmed, we will provide more detailed instructions for the dropoff. We are able to accept small donations dropped off to our office or to our warehouse most weekdays between 9am to 4:30pm by appointment.

Furniture Donations

We are able to accept a range of new and like-new furniture items, either dropped off at our warehouse or picked up. Before scheduling a donation pickup, please take a moment to review our Donations FAQs, as we outline the items we can accept and answer other helpful questions. Once you've reviewed this information, follow these steps: 

  1. Kindly review our to see if we can schedule a pickup in your area. 
  2. Complete our to ensure we have all of the information needed for next steps. If you have questions about the form, please email us at [email protected]. NOTE: We now request a $50 contribution to help cover expenses related to furniture pickups, including staff time and vehicle costs.
  3. You will hear from a member of our team once your form has been submitted. They will respond with clarifying questions & confirmation of next steps as soon as possible.
  4. Prior to a pick up or drop off, please make sure all furnishings are cleaned, without need for repair, and any pet hair/stains/odors have been removed from upholstered items. We may refuse items if they are not of acceptable quality.
  5. Once items are picked up, we can offer you a tax-deductible donation receipt for your in-kind donation.

DIY Donation Drive Opportunities:

Donation Drives are a great way to involve your workplace, civic or church group in a volunteer activity. Donations might include hygiene kits, school kits, work bags, etc. Contact us at [email protected] to discuss donation drive ideas based on current needs.

Does the 探花精选 accept furniture donations?

We do accept new or like-new home furnishings! Please complete our to request a drop off or pickup time. Items needed at the moment:

Do I need an appointment to drop off furniture? 

Yes! Please complete our to ensure our team has the information we need for next steps. Once the form is complete, a member of our team will contact you to confirm a drop off date/time. 

Does quality matter for furniture donations?

Yes! Refugees should begin their new life with dignity, therefore, we have high expectations for furniture donations. Upholstered furniture should be in good condition without any tears, rips, scratches or stains. If pets are allowed on upholstered furniture, the items should be well-vacuumed and cleaned before scheduling a donation pickup or drop off. All furniture should be structurally sound without any need for repairs.

Will all items be accepted during a donation pickup appointment?

We reserve the right to refuse any donations at any time if they fail to meet our condition standards or needs. All furniture must be new or like-new and free from any major stains or tears. Furniture should be cleaned prior to pickup, including removing pet hair and other debris from upholstered items. Small household items may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis during the pickup. All electronics should be in working order. All items donated should be clean and in like-new condition.

Are there any items the 探花精选 isn't able to accept?

Yes! We cannot accept the following items:

We cannot accept computers over three years old. Additionally, we cannot accept TVs over six years old.

Do you accept clothing donations?

We are able to accept winter coats, boots and outerwear donations during our annual Warm Welcome Winter Clothing Drive.

Unfortunately, we are not able to accept everyday clothing items. Clothing donations require additional staffing, storage spaces and distribution centers that are not currently feasible. The 探花精选 in Salt Lake City is not able to wash clothing items and does not have storage spaces that would allow for proper sorting and quick distribution. However, we do have strong partnerships with local organizations like Deseret Industries who provide donated vouchers ensuring the families we serve have access to free clothing items. Oftentimes donations to these other local organizations come full circle to benefit our newest neighbors.

From time to time, we may be able to accept small quantities of brand new clothing items, like baby items or shoes. Please email us at [email protected] and we will review on a case-by-case basis. Again, we are not able to accept gently used everyday clothing items at any time.
