As many of you know, in October of 2015 Robert P. DeVecchi – Bob, former director, president and ultimately chief executive of the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡, passed away at the age of 85. He will forever be remembered for his devotion of more than 20 years at the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡, serving refugees around the world. Under Mr. DeVecchi’s outstanding leadership, the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ flourished in creating emergency relief programs in nearly 30 countries, including Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq El Salvador, Bosnia and Kosovo.
As a native New Yorker, Bob held the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in New York City Resettlement office near and dear to his heart and with his passing, he generously left a substantial financial gift as a legacy to us. This gift is a show of continued support in our work in providing crisis-affected refugees families the care and service they deserve. In order to ensure the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ is able to continue serving the growing needs of refugees, asylees, and other immigrants who are resettled in New York City, we are honored to establish the Robert P. DeVecchi Emergency Fund. The fund will be used to aid our clients with rental assistance, provide supplemental food during harsh times, assist with trauma and mental health needs, make clothing and blankets available during the winter, and prepare individuals for job access and training so they may succeed in their new life in America. His compassion and dedication live on through his charitable gift.
If you would like to make a contribution to strengthen the impact of Mr. DeVecchi’s legacy or would like to leave your own ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ legacy, please or contact Brittany O'Neill.
