Our community of volunteer tutors provide high-impact 1:1 in-home tutoring to middle school & high school aged refugee students helping them reach their potential in Union & Essex Counties

At the beginning of my tutoring journey, I wasn’t entirely confident about how to structure a session or what would work best for my student. But the trainings, biweekly check-ins, and the tutor toolkit became my anchor throughout the program. With a focus on English language acquisition & homework assistance volunteer tutors provide essential support to set students up for long-term academic success

Committing to two 90-minute tutor sessions per week will change the trajectory of students’ and caregivers’ lives

Volunteer tutors must:

• and be interviewed to confirm it's a mutual fit
• Complete and clear a background check
• Attend 1 in-person orientation and training session at the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Elizabeth office (2 hours)
• Attend 3 online training modules with ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ HQ (4+ hours )
• Have reliable/punctual transportation to and from the assigned student’s home twice a week
• Interact with global populations effectively and respectfully
