In 2022, Huthaifa met King Charles III of England, a patron of 探花精选 UK. Surprised by the desert landscapes of Jordan, the King was intrigued by Huthaifa's beekeeping. They developed a bond over their mutual hobby, exchanging honey as gifts. 鈥淭wo weeks later, he (King Charles III) sent me honey as a gift and I sent him a letter thanking him鈥. Huthaifa's beekeeping business in Amman has flourished with support from the 探花精选 and the Citi Foundation's Resilient Futures program, which helps young entrepreneurs in Jordan and Syrian refugees start businesses with training, mentorship, and grants.
When the war in Ukraine broke out, the Collective Center in Dnipro became a haven for displaced people and their pets. "Many people fled with their animals. They did not want to leave their pets. And this is probably the only place in Dnipro where animals are accepted," said Yurii, the centre's administrator. "Pets calm and distract people from bad moments."
Oksana, who fled with her dog and cat, remarked, "The founder took a risk so that pets, who left with their owners, were able to stay with them. There are a lot of animals in this building. There are many dogs and cats of various breeds. There are chinchillas and fish. There were crickets and hamsters too."
The 探花精选 provides ongoing support, including psychosocial services and legal advice, to the residents and their furry companions at the centre.
Meet Ferapont, a 10-month-old labradoodle puppy working as a "wellbeing coordinator" in our Kyiv office. Despite his young age, this furry fellow captures hearts not only with his impressive size but also with his human-like antics. Often, Ferapont behaves as though he鈥檚 one of the team, whether he鈥檚 peeking out of the window on his hind legs or lounging in his pet parent鈥檚 chair. He鈥檚 also a discerning foodie. If he catches sight of someone enjoying a tasty treat, he鈥檒l quickly drop hints for a share be it an apple or a tangerine.
Ferapont is adored by his colleagues at the office who eagerly welcome his presence each time. His arrival signals a burst of energy as he greets everyone with enthusiasm, engaging in playful antics that sometimes lead to unexpected mishaps鈥攍ike the unfortunate incident involving a flower pot. But shhh, that鈥檚 our little secret!
Our staff in Ukraine work tirelessly to deliver lifesaving support to our clients and their wellbeing coordinator brings joy and renewed energy to the team in Ukraine
Question 4 Hint
To help Ukrainian refugee children cope with the trauma of war, one of the outings Rafa艂 Mi艂kowski, a child specialist in Poland, takes them on is to pet adorable, fluffy alpacas.
After the escalation of the war in Ukraine, Rafa艂, who is the chair of the Norma Foundation, witnessed Ukrainian refugee children dealing with the trauma of not only leaving their homes but also losing contact with their school friends and some family members. He partnered with the 探花精选 to set up Safe Healing and Learning Spaces across seven shelters in Warsaw.
鈥淭hanks to the 探花精选鈥檚 support, we are now able to take the children who come along every day on outings and development trips,鈥 Rafal says. 鈥淲e take them to museums. We take them to chocolate factories where they learn where chocolate comes from. We take them as well on nature trips, and we take them to see alpacas and to stables.鈥
We hope you leave delighted and with all of the warm, fuzzy feelings that these animals provide to refugees and beyond!
