Sarah, a casework intern, has been working at the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ since the beginning of the school year! She has worked on planning bus orientations for newly arrived families, and bringing about robust processes to serve newly arrived refugees well.

The Sayid family arrived in early fall 2021 to NYC from the base that temporarily housed evacuating families from Afghanistan. As a family of five, they were focused on resettling as soon as possible. A new beginning for them meant finding a new apartment, setting up social benefits, and enrolling their two children in school. More important is the emotional process of resetting and finding comfort through a difficult transition.

On Saturday, June 19 the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in Tallahassee will celebrate World Refugee Day. The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ will host a live virtual panel discussion with community partners, refugee families and the Tallahassee community at-large. In addition, the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ will host an in-person event tentatively planned at Tom Brown Park. The events will highlight the contributions of the refugee community in Tallahassee, and elevated the voices of refugee families, community leaders and volunteers who ensure Big Bend communities continue to be welcoming places for all.
