Thousands of people are fleeing their homes as the Iraqi army, Kurdish Peshmerga and coalition forces fight to retake Mosul — Iraq's second largest city — from the ISIS militant group. The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ is providing emergency cash relief and other support to displaced families.

Meet Marwan, one of tens of thousands of people who've fled the battle for Mosul. Under ISIS, he was forced to grow a beard. This is his first shave in two years.  

For over two years many of Mosul’s 1.5 million residents struggled to survive under ISIS’s harsh regime without an income. Meet one of the hundreds of families receiving emergency cash relief from the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡.

As the battle for Mosul rages on, ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ president and CEO David Miliband spoke to Iraqis who have fled their homes about the humanitarian conditions they face, the fear that haunts them, and the chances that they'll ever return to their hmes. 

For two long years, women and girls in Mosul were kept inside by ISIS, away from the outside world – and each other. After escaping to camps east of the city, women say that what they need most is space to be together.

Hundreds of thousands of children have been forced to flee their home by the battle against ISIS in Iraq. Watch and share Arwa’s story.  Arwa fled her home in Mosul. Today she attends the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡â€™s center for children where she practices mindfulness to deal with the trauma she has experienced. The center, supported by EU humanitarian aid (ECHO) also gives her a place to play, learn and to just be a child again.

Forty-year-old Thatha and her four sons escaped ISIS-controlled Hawija, Iraq, to Kirkuk in June.  Recent military operations to retake ISIS-controlled areas have already uprooted 240,000 people from their homes in cities like Fallujah and the areas south of Mosul. Some 3 million Iraqis remain trapped, living under ISIS’s brutal rule.
