Around the world, more than 45 million children under the age of five experience acute malnutrition annually. Approximately two million will die as a result.

In acute emergencies, the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ implements community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) to ensure that children and pregnant lactating women get the treatment they need. As countries evolve from emergencies to rebuilding, the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ prioritizes the prevention and treatment of malnutrition.

The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ conducted a pilot in South Sudan to determine the feasibility of low-literate community health workers providing treatment for severe acute malnutrition in their communities.
