Returning back to in-person learning at the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in NY’s Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) has been a highlight for the Education & Learning (E&L) team. NYSA is a five-week program that prepares newly arrived refugee children and youth for success at their grade level in the New York City public school system. The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in NY is thrilled about NYSA celebrating its 23rd year, bringing social-emotional learning, creative education, and a culturally responsive curriculum to each student. 

This brief summarizes actions that program planners and implementers should take to minimize the impact that emergencies have on the lives of young children and their families.

The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ partners implemented the Resilience Expansion and Active Learning in Crisis (REAL) project in Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and South Sudan to provide Learning through Play (LtP) training and materials in setings impacted by extended COVID-19 school closures.

The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡â€™s education programming for primary school-aged children has three overarching goals: (1) to ensure that children enroll in and attend school regularly; (2) to protect children from all forms of violence in school and on their way to school; and (3) to build fundamental reading, math and social-emotional skills.
