On December 3, the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in Silver Spring brought together over 50 clients, volunteers, and staff for a Thanksgiving meal and afternoon of festivities. Sampling traditional American fare such as roasted turkey and cranberry sauce alongside delicacies like homemade dolmas and Syrian pastries, refugee families and ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ volunteers and staff had an opportunity to share their cultural traditions with each other and express the things that they are thankful for in their lives.

For four decades, U.S. presidents have strengthened America’s humanitarian tradition of welcoming refugees. Today, this legacy is in jeopardy.

This World Refugee Day, we are reaching back in history and taking inspiration from seven extraordinary individuals, among many over the years, who have stood with refugees. They have shown that progress is possible, even when the odds can feel too great to overcome.
