The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in Salt Lake City is proud to partner with Empower SLC to educate the refugee and new American populations we serve on reducing energy consumption & lowering energy costs along the way.

Each year the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ (̽»¨¾«Ñ¡) works closely with state elected leaders to ensure that the communities in which we resettle are welcoming places for refugees and other new Americans. In addition to working directly on policy, we assess introduced legislation through our state tracker and identify new model policies and the trends in legislation—all informing the policies included in this guide. Year to year it has reflected emerging themes such as: resources for refugee-serving programs; reduced barriers for re-credentialing and licensure processes in states; and access to in-state tuition, to name a few. These measures not only help ensure refugees and other newcomers can access pathways to economic self-sufficiency and integrate more smoothly, but they positively impact the broader community as well. States and localities across the country can only benefit from the personal and professional success that a recently arrived individual achieves as they rebuild their lives. This year’s state policy and advocacy guide includes new policy themes and some familiar ones—but with nuanced examples as the policy efforts take shape in different states and political contexts. Recommendations provided are informed by stakeholder engagement and landscaping impacted communities to understand service provision needs, and strategic assessments of the political realities on the ground.

The digital inclusion program at the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in Salt Lake City offers refugees the opportunity to learn how to use technology to their advantage while providing access to the Internet and devices.

As part of the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡â€™s national Refugee Voices initiative, New American Voices in Salt Lake City encourages refugees and other New Americans to learn more about civic engagement, advocacy, and preparing for national events like the Census and the 2020 election.

New Roots NY and ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡â€™s POWER (Providing Opportunities for Women’s Economic Resilience) program have teamed up this spring to offer a comprehensive and engaging job training program.

The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ and the American Express Foundation have partnered to create the Workforce Integration for Newcomers (WIN) program, an initiative focused on providing people with the skills and pathways they need to prepare for their new life in host communities and achieve long-term success at work.  

Refugee and immigrant youth share their stories through public speaking engagements, events, and now a semi-permanent display at the San Diego International Airport in partnership with High Tech High.

This community partner spotlight features Cathy Burds, CEO of Colographic, who faced hiring challenges and turned to the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in Denver, hiring her first refugee employee, Marcos. Overcoming language barriers, she ensured his certification and integration. Cathy’s efforts inspired industry changes and increased awareness of refugee hiring practices in Colorado, demonstrating the power of collective efforts and inclusivity.
