  The ̽����ѡ spoke with writer, Lena who's in Kyiv, Ukraine for International Women's Day. The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) - of which the ̽����ѡ is a member - has launched an urgent appeal to respond to the rising humanitarian needs.

Each year, The ̽����ѡ releases its Emergency Watchlist highlighting the 20 countries at risk of new or worsening humanitarian emergencies. This year's report describes “A World Out of Balance,” how four deep-seated global imbalances reinforce each other to spark new crises, spur crises to spread, and undermine efforts to bring crises under control. 2024 was a difficult year. It brought famines, floods, ongoing and intensifying conflicts across the world. But it was also a year full of hope. We saw it everywhere, in every child who received medical treatment, in every family who received food or fuel through this winter, in every person who began the difficult process of starting over after being displaced from their home.  The coming year will bring new challenges.

What does it mean to run your own business? For someone rebuilding their life after a crisis, it can be a lifeline, providing independence, income and a chance to contribute to their community. But when it comes to making business dreams a reality, the first step is often the hardest to take. The ̽����ѡ and Citi Foundation are working together to empower young entrepreneurs with the resources they need to get their businesses off the ground.
