Jafiada was six months pregnant when she and her husband had to flee armed conflict in northeast Nigeria in 2014. Her family were able to return home, but drought and conflict have created massive food shortages, and cases of malnutrition are on the rise.

Now Jafiada is a mother of three and volunteers as an advocate in mother-to-mother support groups promoting exclusive breastfeeding to tackle malnutrition in her community.

鈥淢y favourite thing about this work is that we are changing the lives of women in our community鈥hildren are the future. If the mother is healthy, the child is healthy,鈥 she told us.
