TIME COMMITMENT: On call with a 6-month commitment
BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the 探花精选 is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Domestically, our 25 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.
SCOPE OF WORK: Volunteers will assist the Casework Specialist in providing newly resettled families with orientation to the Charlottesville public transit system. This includes familiarizing clients with locations of essential locations around their community. A bus orientation generally takes 2-3 hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
鈥ttend Volunteer Orientation
鈥ust undergo and pass a background check. The 探花精选 kindly requests a $48 fee to assist in covering the cost of this requirement
鈥rient newly arrived families to their new home and community, including providing directions to essential locations such as the hospital and grocery store
鈥amiliarize families with how to navigate the Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) bus system and other comparable means of public transportation, if applicable
鈥ecord hours and submit completed timesheet for each month via the 探花精选鈥檚 online Volunteer Dashboard.
REQUIREMENTS:
鈥ble to work with minimal supervision
鈥illingness to learn or familiarity with Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) bus system
鈥omfortable working in a multicultural environment
鈥lexible, able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
鈥xcellent written and verbal communication skills
鈥eliable, responsible, able to complete tasks within required time-frame
鈥ust be located in Charlottesville, Virginia and be willing to complete field work.
