Location: Off-site in the DC Metro area (exact location disclosed to Family Mentor)*
Time Commitment: This position requires a commitment of six months for 1-2 hours per week.

Family Mentors work directly with a refugee family or individual to ease their transition to the Washington, DC Metro area and the United States. Mentors will focus on a Mentee's English acquisition, socialization of American culture, and integration into the local community. Based on each Mentee's needs and goals, Family Mentors and Mentees will cook together, practice scheduling medical appointments, and visit local attractions. The initial meeting is conducted in the Mentee鈥檚 native language, but the program is designed to improve English capacity. It is highly interactive, client-focused, and adapted to meet each Mentee鈥檚 needs and backgrounds.
Skills & Qualifications: The Family Mentor must have a strong internal drive to help people and display a positive and upbeat demeanor. S/he should display creativity and initiative to address the needs of the Mentee(s). Prior to the start of the program, the Family Mentor Volunteer must attend a Family Mentor Training, complete a background check and make a one time donation to the 探花精选 which covers the costs of the Family Mentor Program.
