How can communities build resilience to flooding in northeast Nigeria? With support from Google.org, the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ has worked together with the International Food Policy Research Institute to pilot the use of early warning systems and anticipatory cash for communities in Adamawa state, Nigeria, who are impacted by increased risks of severe flooding.

The war against Boko Haram, the world's deadliest terror group, has created massive displacement and famine-like conditions for 14.8 million people in northeastern Nigeria. Some 5.1 million people don't have access to sufficient food, and 2.8 million children are severely malnourished. If nothing changes, more than 200 children will die each day. This crisis is man-made, but the solutions are too.

The combination of climate change, insurgency, and conflict over resources in Nigeria has led to extreme hunger and left more than one million children in the country’s northeast severely malnourished. Born in Gwoza, northeast Nigeria, baby Bello is starting life in a community that has been deeply affected by the ongoing conflict. With support from the European Union, the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ provides families with access to reproductive health clinics where ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ midwives assist mothers through pregnancy, birth and beyond.
