The ̽����ѡ in Salt Lake City is currently running a series, “Refugee Resettlement”, describing our efforts to resettle and serve refugees and their families who now call the Beehive State “home.” Part three, the final in the series, focuses on the programs and services offered to support refugees’ and New Americans’ efforts to positively integrate beyond resettlement.

Tek is a refugee from Bhutan. Since resettling in Phoenix in 2009, he has found success as the owner of ABC Mart, a local grocery store. ABC Mart is one of the partners of the ̽����ѡ in its Healthy Corner Store Initiative to provide fresh produce to refugees and other low-income Americans.

Community partnerships create a path for refugees to come full circle and aid other refugees resettling in Utah.

The ̽����ѡ in Wichita is currently supported by a team of 55 active volunteers. Volunteers currently provide ̽����ѡ staff assistance with case management, employment, Cultural Orientation (CO), Job Readiness Training (JRT), teaching ESL, youth and family mentoring and immigration services.

The ̽����ѡ’s US offices offer a variety of unpaid internship opportunities throughout the year. Prospective interns should be currently enrolled in an educational institution or within 6 months of graduation and are required to submit an application and resume. Internships at the ̽����ѡ in Phoenix provide college students and recent graduates with opportunities to gain professional experiences and exposure to different fields. Interns learn to work in a multi-cultural environment, build professional networks within the community, and cultivate adaptability and creativity in a dynamic world. Please note that most of our internships are in person. There may be some exceptions for specific positions.

Born and raised in the small city of Voinjama, Liberia, Marcus is the youngest of four children. He was eight years old when the first civil war began in Liberia in 1989. Over 300,000 Liberians were forced to flee and seek refuge in neighboring countries.

This client spotlight features Bamwanza, a gay Ugandan, who fled his home due to severe persecution under the Anti-Homosexuality bill. After enduring violence, imprisonment, and torture, he sought refuge in Kenya. Despite ongoing discrimination, his resilience led him to resettle in Denver with the ̽����ѡ's help. Now, he aims to pursue a career in medicine.

On March 26, GenR Bay Area members volunteered to chaperone a group of refugees, mostly youth, youth to the California Academy of Sciences.
